We scored 50 enterprise B2B companies across 5 sectors for AI visibility using the 4-dimension framework (Citation Presence, Entity Recognition, Content Structure, Citation Breadth). 44% scored 2/25 on Citation Presence. AI knows who they are but does not recommend them. The gap between the highest sector (Enterprise SaaS at 89.8/100) and lowest (Technology/IT Services at 77.3/100) is driven entirely by citation, not recognition.
We Scored 50 Enterprise Companies for AI Visibility. Here Is What We Found.
Enterprise marketing teams are increasing AI budgets faster than any other department. 86% are spending more this year. The investment is going into Copilot rollouts, AI-powered analytics, automated content workflows, and campaign optimisation.
But we wanted to know: does any of that investment translate into being recommended by AI?
We built a study to find out.
The Study
We scored 50 enterprise B2B companies across 5 sectors using the AI Visibility Framework, which measures four dimensions:
- Citation Presence (0-25): Does AI mention your company by name when buyers search your category?
- Entity Recognition (0-25): Does AI correctly describe what your company does?
- Content Structure (0-25): Can AI extract clear answers from your website?
- Citation Breadth (0-25): Are you mentioned across multiple independent sources?
Each company was tested across Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Perplexity using category-level queries that a real buyer would search. The full methodology is published in the AI Visibility Benchmark 2026 research page.
The sectors: Enterprise SaaS (10 companies), Management Consulting (10), Financial Services (10), Professional Services (10), and Technology / IT Services (10).
The Headline Finding
44% of the companies we scored got 2 out of 25 on Citation Presence.
That is the dimension that measures whether AI mentions your company by name when a buyer searches for your service.
But here is what makes this finding significant: those same companies scored well on everything else.
- Entity Recognition averaged 23.4/25 across all 50 companies
- Citation Breadth averaged 25/25
- Content Structure averaged 20.1/25
AI knows who these companies are. It knows what they do. It can find them mentioned across multiple independent sources.
It just does not recommend them.
The One Dimension That Explains Almost Everything
We expected the scores to vary across all four dimensions. They did not. Three dimensions were consistently strong. One was consistently weak.

Citation Presence is the only dimension where companies consistently underperform. And it is the dimension that translates directly to whether a buyer finds you through AI.
Every company scoring 90 or above in our study had a Citation Presence score of 22 or higher. Every company scoring below 70 had a Citation Presence score of 2. One dimension explains almost all the variance.

Enterprise SaaS companies score 24.4/25 on Citation Presence. Technology and IT Services companies score 8.0/25. That is a 3x gap on the single dimension that determines whether AI recommends you to buyers.
The other three dimensions are comparable across all sectors. Entity Recognition, Content Structure, and Citation Breadth are all within a few points of each other regardless of sector. The divergence is entirely in citation.
Why SaaS Companies Score Higher
Enterprise SaaS companies have a structural advantage that has nothing to do with the quality of their marketing.
They are frequently compared in buyer guides, review platforms (G2, Capterra, TrustRadius), and competitive analyses published across independent sites. This creates a citation pattern that AI platforms replicate when generating answers. When a buyer asks AI "what are the best marketing automation platforms," the AI draws from dozens of comparison articles that already name these companies.
Professional services and IT companies are rarely compared this way. An accounting firm in London does not appear in "best accountants UK" comparison articles the way HubSpot appears in "best CRM software" roundups. The result is a citation gap that has nothing to do with the quality of their work.
What the Top Performers Have in Common
The companies scoring 90 or above shared three traits:
They appear in comparison and recommendation content. Not just their own website. Not just directories. They show up in independent articles that compare or recommend companies in their category. AI platforms draw heavily from this type of content when building answers.
Their entity data is consistent across platforms. LinkedIn, website, Google Business Profile, and directories all describe the company the same way. When AI cross-references these sources, it finds consensus. Inconsistency creates confusion. Consistency creates confidence.
Their content directly answers category-level questions. The first paragraph of their service pages answers "what do you do and who is it for" in plain language. No brand storytelling. No animated hero sections. A direct answer that AI can extract and cite.

What This Means for Enterprise Marketing Teams
48% of B2B searches now trigger AI-generated answers. 94% of B2B buyers use generative AI during their research process. This is not a future problem. It is current buyer behaviour.
The companies in our study that score 2/25 on Citation Presence are not failing at marketing. They have strong brands, established content programmes, and active marketing teams. They are failing at a dimension of marketing that did not exist 18 months ago.
